Biography
Inspired to be the new shining light of Rochester, NY, A Thousand Shades of Cold was formed in late summer of 2005. With the name A Thousand Shades of Cold serving as an archetype for the group’s combined emotions, trials and tribulations, an ever evolving sound of alternative metal blended with heavy and progressive rock surfaced amidst the chaos. This is a group focused on energy and intensity. Their mixing of styles creates a sound that is meaningful, something that invokes emotions in the listeners. This blend is heavy at times, slow and powerful, and can instantly change to a fast paced barrage. This allows them to fit in with many genres and play with many different types of groups, such as they have with Breaking Benjamin, Hurt, Chimaira, Hatebreed and many more. The group consists of Jake Gissin – Lead Vocals, Juan Calixto – Drums, Dan Vanderostyn – Guitars, McCue Greene – Bass, and Randy McLeod – Guitars. With their second release, Slated for the summer of 2012! “DarkenTheDaylight” the group is now in search of major touring. The group has found many taking a definite interest in their sound, as three of their songs were selected for the MMA video game ” Supremacy MMA” released on the Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms, as well as being featured music for an upcoming TV show in mid 2012. In the meantime, the group continues to book shows with national acts from all over ranging from radio rock (Breaking Benjamin, Smile Empty Soul) to the extreme of metal (Hatebreed, Dying Fetus). In the beginning, ATSOC (A Thousand Shades of Cold) started with nothing more than high hopes and a solid structure. Their first demo was recorded in December of 2005 at It’ll Do Studios with Mike Hatalak (It Dies Today). Their first single, “Undisputed”, was recorded during this session. Amherst Records took an immediate interest in the band when the demo made its way to the ears of Owner/President Lenny Silver. By February of 2006, the band was signed to Amherst Records and was scheduled to go back into the studio to record a full length album, once again at It’ll Do Studios with Mike Hatalak in March and April of 2006.         To reinforce the album, their first music video was recorded in Buffalo, NY at the Town Ballroom for their signature track “Undisputed”. This video was produced and directed by Armand Petri (Producer of Goo Goo Dolls, Manowar, Six Pence None the Richer). Their first steps made great progress as they topped the charts on Garage Band’s website and created an immediate buzz around the name “A Thousand Shades of Cold”. Ready to hit the road, ATSOC found their name and sound preceding them at every venue and event. In 2008, ATSOC found themselves parting ways with Amherst Records as the label was no longer going to be actively working in the music industry. Lenny Silver was not planning on shutting down the label completely, but just no longer taking an active role in the industry. Sadly, after saying goodbye to Amherst Records and Lenny Silver, the group realized all the work they had ahead of them was only going to get done by doing it themselves. Their time with Amherst Records was the kick start they needed to get off their feet. The result was winning the 2007 “Ugly Idol” competition hosted by 94.1 The Zone, which earned them radio airplay and a slot on the annual Ten Ugly Men Festival, a major Rochester, NY event. They also made it onto many other events such as the main stage for the Taste of Rochester event, a headlining slot on the 2007 Big Daddy Distribution showcase held at The Mansion on O St. in Washington DC, and numerous local radio stations spinning their tracks. ATSOC is going to keep moving up until they demand the attention of millions. Their newest achievement has been signing with Spectra Records!!!!!!!! Check back for the “official release” date soon for “DarkenTheDaylight” Slated for the summer of 2012 Worldwide!
